Overdrive was formed in 1992 by guitarist Dragan Midorović. The band performed as a cover band with various lineups until Damir Milutinov (vocals) and Aleksandar Midorović (guitar) joined, prompting the band to write original material. Their debut album, No More Words, was released through independent label Boa Records and featured Aleksandar Vujnov (bass) and Nebojša Mitrović (drums).

The follow-up album, Everything's Fine, introduced new drummer Branislav Đerić. The third album, Movement, released through PGP-RTS, included live versions of songs from the first two albums and a cover of Madonna's 'Erotica', recorded with Dragan Živković (bass) and Slobodan Levakov (drums). In 2010, the band released their fourth studio album, Explode, as a free download via Exit Music.

In 2012, Overdrive recorded their first track in Serbian, a cover of the folk classic 'Ova naša livada', which they still perform live. After a longer hiatus, the band reactivated in 2017 with new bassist Nemanja Konstantinović. In 2018, they recorded a new single entirely in Serbian, 'Dembelija', inspired by a children's song. The video for 'I Found My Way Out' premiered in early February 2024.
