GeroMetal was formed in 1992 by guitarist Josip Sabo (ex-Griva) and drummer Bane Kerac, a comic book artist. They were soon joined by bassist Predrag 'Peđa' Moldvaji, a former member of Albatorosi. Initially, the band performed covers of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Free, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, setting them to humorous Serbian lyrics. These songs were released in 1993 on the album Der Rauch Am Wasser, German for 'Smoke on the Water'.
